This machine works as advertised, but should have been tested by Quality Control people who make their own coffee every morning. The fit of the pot under the basket is rough. The water tank sometimes "hangs up" and does not engage the machine properly, but appears to be in correctly. This causes the machine to not start at the programmed time because it thinks it has no water. There is not a positive feel to getting the pot positioned on the machine. If you don't get it just right the pot will not engage the basket valve.The top of the pot is very easy to cross thread as you screw it in.again, who tested this machine.
Easy to operate and clean, and it keeps the coffee warm for at least two hours. I have had this coffee maker for two months and only have good things to say about it. It replaced a much more expensive Cuisinart and it works much better. Filling the thermal container with hot water for five minutes assures steaming coffee for even longer. Even the electronic clock is easy to program.
I purchased this coffee maker for work about two years ago. I have used it since for coffee about 5-6 times a week. I really appreciate the design notes: most coffee makers I have encountered in work environments have several places that tend to just gather coffee residue, which is just gross after a while. The B&D design uses a big reservoir which you can pop out to rinse out or fill for coffee; a thermal carafe which keeps the coffee in the drinkably warm temperature range for about 5 hours (make sure to take the carafe out from under the filter and to tighten up the top).; and the filter holder can also be rotated out and then removed for cleaning.I wish it was a bit cheaper, but it's super solid, and the coffee from the carafe stays warm without burning.Just for some perspective, I've purchased many things on amazon, but I believe this is my first review.
One of the best things about it is the brewing time is super fast. I have been totally pleased with this coffeemaker since I purchased it 8 months ago. When I want coffee in the morning I don't want to wait long at all and it is ready before you know it.This unit is perfect for my style of coffee drinking, I only drink coffee first thing in the morning therefore it is hot and just right for drinking. It is the best design ever. Easy to clean with the removable water reservoir, you can put it in the dishwasher. I never liked having coffee sitting on the heating element and burning making the taste of the coffee awful and the smell in my house.If this unit ever wears out I hope this model is still available for purchase because I love it and would definitely buy it again. I highly recommend this unit.
The brew tends to the weaker side, so use more coffee. The Black & Decker TCM830 provides good value for the cost. It is sometimes tricky to get the pot to sit properly under the basket or to remove it without pulling out the basket, but otherwise all features work as designed. I have used several more expensive machines and something always went wrong - the timer wouldn't work or something leaked. No such problems with this machine.
